Aims of the School
The aims of the school are to teach to the highest possible standard each form of dance so that pupils can achieve their full potential. To foster an appreciation of dance in all its diversity.
We strive to bring to our pupils an awareness of that innate love of music and movement that is in us all.
The Portslade School of Dancing offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Modern Dance.
From three years old in the Baby ballet class, children learn some basic positions and lots of ‘fun’ exercise too. Our three year old beginners benefit from these introductory lessons which gives the basis and discipline of future ballet classes.
Our ballet syllabus, devised by John Field and Anne Heaton, takes students from Pre-Primary, through Grades 1 – 5 and to Vocational Examinations.
We provide a ‘tap taster’ in our Pre-Syllabus Class for children from four and five years old.
The tap syllabus takes students from Pre-Primary through to Advanced.
Tap dancing is a great way to keep fit and we have adult classes from beginners upwards.
We follow the I.S.T.D. Modern dance Syllabus from Primary Grade upwards. This provides strong jazz based work, encompassing many styles and gives a comprehensive foundation for any show work.
